Beaches

Bundy beaches are seriously underrated. The golden sand is coarse but still nice under your feet. So much variety and places to explore and fantastic wildlife. No crowds!!!

Mon Repos

French for ‘My Rest’. This beach is a spiritual place. Largest turtle rookery on the East Coast it feels so remote but is only 10km from the centre of town. Bike path links it with Burnett Heads and Bargara. Peace and quiet and minimal currents. Sometimes some small surf (long board or paddle board). Super private and relaxing. Easy access at Northern and Southern ends. Not patrolled, so stay in the shallows. No dogs as they bait for foxes.

Coonarr

Slightly whiter sand. Easy access but not a sealed road. There is a Northern end (car access) and a Southern end (4x4 only). You can see Elliott Heads from here and it’s a good hike to the Elliott River with plenty of wildlife to observe (kangaroos, eagles). Very private so perfect if you prefer to swim nude. This is not a clothing optional beach, but you often see naked bathers. You are allowed to have a fire on this beach, and dogs on a leash. So relaxing.

Elliott Heads

The mouth of the Elliott River is becoming more and more popular because it is such a perfect spot to kick back. You can grab some beers and just have an afternoon float. Can be strong currents. Looks really different at low and high tide. Plenty of rock pools and wildlife. Great spot for water sports. Kite surfing is super popular here and you can hire some gear.

The Basin - Kellys Beach

Such a fun, family friendly place. It’s an artificial swimming hole perfect for a dip or snorkel. Lot’s of fish to see and even feed. Beautiful at high tide.

Neilson Park - Bargara

Perfect family beach with a little bit of surf. Small coffee shop at the Surf Lifesaver building. Plenty of swings and a skate park. Really safe and patrolled. Easy access.

Woodgate Beach

About a 30 minute drive south of Bundaberg. So many kangaroos!! Not a whole lot here but it’s a really amazing stretch of beach. Needs a nice little beach shack cafe. Sun sets like you won’t believe. Theodolite Creek is worth a visit at the northern end of Woodgate. Clear blue, still water. Perfect. Fishing capital of Bundy.
